The University of Pavia (UNIPV), founded in 1361, is one of the oldest universities in Europe.
Pavia’s campus is tailor-made to the needs of its 24,000 students and the University’s 16 colleges provide young men and women with an environment in which they can live and grow together, exchange ideas and projects and plan for the future. There are around 1,200 foreign students currently enrolled at the University of Pavia. Every year their numbers are swelled by the 300 odd Erasmus students who decide to spend one or more trimesters in Pavia.
UNIPV participates in international projects, promotes interdisciplinary research, takes part in international networks.
The Ecology Laboratory within the UNIPV Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences has been doing researches on population and community ecology of marine organisms since the 1980s.
We have collaborated with major international organizations dealing with the issue of “marine alien Species” in the Mediterranean (Mediterranean Science Commission - CIESM, Mediterranean Action Plan - RAC/SPA) and in Europe (ICES – WGITMO Working Group on Introduction and Transfer of Marine Organisms, WGBOSV Working Group on Ballast and Other Ship Vectors).
We also cooperate with the ENEA - S. Teresa Marine Environment Research Centre, regarding projects on marine acidification.
