Sandra Gonçalves obtained a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (Biotechnology) in 2007 from the University of Algarve, Portugal. She is currently Assistant Researcher at Plant Biotechnology Lab (University of Algarve). Her research focuses on plant tissue culture; plant bioactive compounds; and physiological and biochemical studies in plants. She has experience in supervising degree, master and Ph.D students, and in teaching graduate and undergraduate-level curricular units as Plant Biotechnology, Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Medicinal Plants and Phytotheraphy, and Integrated Laboratories in Biotechnology. She has published several research and review papers in refereed journals, book chapters by invitation and presented several communications at national and international congresses and scientific meetings. S. Gonçalves participates in several research projects, and in science outreach and education initiatives. Currently she is Guest Editor of the special issue “Biotechnological Approaches for the Production of Bioactives” in Plants Journal.
